Men's and Ladies Championships
The club's premier competitions, open to all bowlers. 4 woods, 21 shots to win.

Mens' and Ladies Handicaps
Open to all bowlers with a published handicap – 4 woods. The player with the larger handicap will be set to score 21 shots plus the net handicap difference in the respective handicaps, before the player with the smaller handicap has scored 21 shots. (E.g. a player with a 12 handicap playing an opponent with a seven handicap must score 26 shots against the opponent’s 21 shots, and will start with a position of minus 5 on the scoreboard.)

Veterans
Open only to male bowlers aged 64 and over on May 1st of the current year. 4 woods. 21 shots to win after clearing net handicap difference, as in “Handicaps” above.

Mens Two-Wood (Shadforth)
Open to all male bowlers – 2 woods, 21 shots to win.

Ladies Two-Wood (Peggy Atkins Trophy)
Open to all lady bowlers. Played on one day. 2 woods, 21 ends and highest score wins.

Ladies Fixed Jack
Open to all lady bowlers. Played over a sequence of short, medium and long ends with the front of the mat always two metres from the ditch. 4 woods each player, 101 points to win (wood nearest jack scores 4 points, then 3, 2 and 1).

Mens and Ladies Junior Championships
Open to all unbadged bowlers who have not won an outdoor 4-wood singles competition (excluding the Helson) anywhere. 4 woods, 21 shots to win.

Mixed Open Singles (Helson)
Open to all bowlers with a handicap of 7 or less. 4 woods, 21 shots to win.

Mixed Open Singles (Gunn Trophy)
Open to all bowlers. 4 wood singles played in sets. Best of three sets (five sets in the final) – first to reach 7 shots in each set wins that set. Players toss for the mat before the first and last sets. For all other sets, the mat will alternate between the players. The draw will be made not earlier than 1st August annually and entry to the draw may be denied to any player with a game outstanding, beyond its due date, in any other club competition.

Mens and Ladies Pairs
Open to all bowlers with a published handicap. Pairs are drawn from two pools, one pool having players of higher handicaps, the other having players of lower handicaps. 4 woods each player, 21 ends and the highest score wins. The net handicap difference will be shown on the scoreboard at the start of the game.

Ladies Two Wood Pairs (Angela Fullbrook Trophy)
Open to all ladies with a published handicap. Pairs are drawn as for the ladies pairs (see above). Half the difference in handicaps (rounded down) to be played off. Played on one day – 2 woods each player, 21 ends and the highest score wins.

Mixed Pairs
Open to all bowlers. Pairs as entered (i.e. not drawn), one Lady and one Gentleman. 4 woods each player, 21 ends and highest score wins.

Mixed Open Triples (Billy Williams)
Open to all bowlers. Mixed triples drawn from the names entered. Played on a single Sunday or Bank Holiday during the summer. 3 woods each player. Round robin leading to knockout stages and final.

Open Triples (Hospital Triples)
Open to all bowlers. Triples as entered (i.e. not drawn) and may comprise 3 ladies, 3 men or mixed. 3 woods each player. 18 ends and the highest score wins. This is a Club Trophy, but the winners will go on to represent the Club against Buckhurst Hill, Loughton and Woodford for the HOSPITAL TRIPLES TROPHY. Entry fees will be donated to a charity.

 

Notes: 1. No handicap will be published for ladies in their first year at Connaught unless they are established bowlers.
2. New men bowlers will be given nominal handicaps in their first year, unless they are established bowlers.
